A spring broke on my 42 inch mower which a first made the engine die when I put the mower in reverse but shortly after when I shut the engine off it would not start. I know the blade has to be disengaged or the engine will not start and it is acting exactly the same way. The broken spring is about 5 inches long and 5/8 wide.
